Where linerless labels are commonly used
Scale printers
These are normally used in supermarkets, for instance in the fruit and vegetable aisle where a customer can weigh their own items and apply their own pricing labels.
Desktop Printers and larger industrial models
Usually logistics and fulfilment operations.
Portable printers
Normally a pick and pack operation where the operator would carry the printer around with them and label the products at the picking location.
These all take different sizes of labels and finished linear metres per roll which is governed by the printer width and max o/d.

The linerless product:
Unlike a conventional self-adhesive label construction which is made up of a face material, layer of adhesive and silicone coated release liner, a linerless media has absolutely no release liner at all. The way this works is not dissimilar to a roll of Sellotape, the face of the material is coated with a silicone release agent which allows the media to be wound onto itself and release cleanly prior to application.
The Range:
In terms of the stock line we are offering our product code DTEL105100-25. This is a direct thermal face material / 105mm wide continuous roll on high tack hotmelt adhesive / wound out on 25mm id cores / 100 linear metres per finished roll / max o/d is 111mm which should be suitable for most desktop printers with a max o/d of 5”. This is predominantly a track and trace logistics and fulfilment style label which we can offer as little as 1 box for next day delivery but there are many other sizes and types available within the range for various printers, market types and applications but they are volume prohibitive. The moq is usually 1 pallet which varies in total amount of labels depending on size.
The printers
In most instances if the client is using a printer for a conventional self-adhesive laminate the printers will need modifying or completely changing to support a linerless product. There are special coated paper path rollers within the printer that prevent the media from sticking inside the printer and guillotine blades to chop material to the finished size. This varies from printer to printer.
Benefits of Linerless vs conventional self-adhesive:
More media on a roll so less roll changes and improved productivity. For example if you were to compare a 101.6mm x 152.4mm with a 3mm gap back at 500 labels per roll on a 25mm id core, this will yield a total finished linear meterage of 78lm with an outer diameter of approx. 4.6” to fit a desktop printer. If we compared this to a linerless product at the same media width for a desktop printer you would get a yield of 100lm on a finished roll with an outer diameter of approx. 4.3”. The user can also utilise the added benefit of having the ability to chop the labels to any length without changing the roll.
• No peeling of the label from the release liner so faster application times.
• No liner waste! So 100% recyclable as long as it is paired with a paper substrate.
