THE QUICK ANSWER

Start with your printer, then choose the finish

For inkjet printing, start with standard matt colours, kraft or matt white. If you want fluorescent or metallic labels, use a compatible laser printer. Always check that your printer supports self-adhesive label sheets.

Blank label colour is the background. Ordinary home and office printers usually do not print white. White areas of your artwork show the label material beneath, and coloured backgrounds can change the appearance of printed colours.

Everyday colour identification

Matt coloured labels

Inkjet & laser

Use colour to distinguish stock, files, shelves and storage. Choose dark text and simple designs that remain readable against the coloured paper.

High visual impact

Fluorescent labels

Laser only

Choose a bright background for promotions, identification and notices that need to stand out. These sheets are for compatible laser printers, not inkjet printers.

Decorative metallic finish

Metallic gold & silver labels

Laser only

Give packaging, gifts and product labels a metallic background. These are metallic label materials, rather than a foil-stamping service. Black and dark artwork provide a useful starting point.

Natural brown appearance

Brown kraft labels

Inkjet & laser

A brown paper background suits rustic packaging, jars, gifts and handmade products. Dark artwork is usually easier to read; printed colours can look more muted than on white.

Versatile white background

Matt white labels

Inkjet & laser

Choose white when you want a neutral base for text, addresses, barcodes or full-colour artwork. It is a useful comparison when deciding whether a coloured background will help your design.

PRINTING THAT STAYS READABLE

Choose contrast as carefully as colour

Keep text clear

Dark text is a useful starting point on coloured, fluorescent, kraft and metallic materials. Test small lettering and fine detail on your chosen finish.

Test your codes

For barcodes and QR codes, choose a background with reliable contrast and test it with the actual scanner or phone. A decorative finish may not suit every code.

Match the template

Choose the exact size and layout, print at 100% or Actual Size, and check alignment on plain paper first.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Coloured label FAQs

Which coloured A4 labels do you stock?

Our main stocked ranges include red, green, yellow and blue matt coloured labels, fluorescent labels, metallic gold and silver labels, brown kraft paper and matt white paper. Check each product for available colours, sizes and pack quantities.

Can I print these labels with an inkjet printer?

Our standard matt coloured, brown kraft and matt white paper labels are suitable for compatible inkjet and laser printers. The fluorescent and metallic ranges covered here are for laser printing, not inkjet printing. Check your printer manual for suitable label media.

What is the difference between fluorescent and standard coloured labels?

Standard coloured labels provide everyday colour identification. Fluorescent labels have a brighter neon appearance for stronger visual emphasis. Our standard coloured paper range supports inkjet and laser printing; our fluorescent range is laser only.

Can I print white text on coloured labels?

Most ordinary inkjet and laser printers do not print white ink or toner. White areas in your artwork normally remain unprinted and show the label colour beneath. Choose a white label if your design needs an unprinted white background, or ask us about specialist print requirements.

Will my artwork look the same on kraft or metallic labels?

The label background affects how artwork appears. Colours may look different from the same design printed on white paper. Test your design on the actual material, especially for small text, fine detail and colour-sensitive artwork.

Are these coloured paper labels waterproof?

Do not assume these paper label ranges are waterproof. For applications exposed to moisture, consider a suitable polyester or other waterproof material and test the complete printed label for the conditions it will face.

Can I use these labels for barcodes and QR codes?

Barcode and QR-code reading depends on contrast, background, print quality, size and the scanner. Black print on white is a useful starting point. Test the actual printed label with the equipment it will be used with before producing a batch.

Where can I find printing templates?

Visit our label templates page and choose the template matching your exact label size and sheet layout. Print at 100% or Actual Size, with page scaling disabled, and check alignment on plain paper before using a label sheet.

Can Go2Products print the labels for me?

Yes. Our personalised A4 sheet labels offer a professionally printed option. Choose an available material, size and quantity on that product, or request a quote if you need help confirming the specification.

What if my size is not listed?

Explore our made-to-order labels for additional sizes and materials. Available specifications, minimum quantities, prices and lead times can differ from the stocked range. Request a quote if you need help choosing.
